Hello I and my family are planning to visit Canada next year but our passports are very new with no travel history . is it a requirement that we must have travel history before we are granted the Canadian visa?

No, travel history is not a requirement.

However it helps your application, if you have passport stamps on other passports or other past international travel history it is not seen as bad

To answer this question it might be helpful to look at what the VO assumes regarding travel history. It is expensive to travel internationally. If you can afford holidays abroad it is an indication of being well established in your country. It increases the chance the tourist will not overstay as they likely have job/home to return to. Travel for work purposes is not as important, but all travel provides evidence of going and returning.
