Travel Document in place of PR Card

I am planning a trip to my home country in November and am yet to do my landing. CIC received my passport 12 days back and I am expecting it any moment now. I know that I will not be able to get my PR card by November even if I do my landing now. I wanted some inputs from seniors and other forum members who has experience in applying for a travel document from India in the absence of a PR card to re-enter Canada.
