Dear All,

In order to get an Ontario G driver's license without having to wait four years, one has to prove at least four years of driving. I have been driving in Egypt for more than 20 years. I went down to the traffic office and obtained a driving history certificate, which is a small one-page hand-written sheet on specially-colored anti-counterproof paper, that shows the date that I obtained my first driver's license (in the 1980's).

From what I can gather, in for this to be accepted by ServiceOntario, this needs to be translated in Canada (which I gather would cost around $300 for me and another $300 for my wife), or to have translated by an Egyptian governmental source (not a private translator).

But, at this point, I get stuck. I know that the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs have offices that can attach their stamp to the driving history (based on the driving history having been stamped already by the traffic office), however this is still in Arabic. Has anyone here gone through this experience? Does the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (or another government office) translate any documents? When I was first applying for immigration, the Egyptian Ministry of Justice was able to translate my marriage certificate itself without going to an outsiden translator. The Ministry of Health also translated my children's birth certificates. Is there something similar for the driver's license and driving history?

I can't be the first Egyptian who has faced this situation :)
