Transit Visa - Germany to US via Montreal Canada

Hi everyone,
I have a bit of Situation, as I wasn't Aware that we Need a Transit visa for Candian Airports(as Stupid as it sounds) , I applied online in rush (30 Nov 18) , it's now almost 15 days and still no Response, the ffucke up part is that my flight is on 25 Dec . after approval do we also Need a paper based Visa or do they provide online Visa? I bought ticket without Knowledge of Transit shit and now regretting booking a flight with AirCanada.

1. You require a Transit visa, then yes you will have to submit your passport to obtain a counterfoil.
