Transferring money from a UK to Canadian bank account. Does anyone that has moved from the UK to Canada know if this is possible?

Any help or experiences would be appreciated :D

Yes it is. You would need to speak to your bank in the UK to find out what they require.

Most likely they will use IBAN.

I regularly send money from Canada back to the UK and I just needed my IBAN number and the name, address of my branch.

Great, thanks Andrew :). I was looking at taking some cash over but also transferring money from my UK to Canadian Scotiabank account.

Scotiabank is part of a global alliance ATM program, see here. It means when I am in the UK I can access my Canadian Scotia account through a Barclay's ATM with no extra fees. And vice versa. I was in Australia and could withdraw from a WestPac with no fees. It is great.

That is great, might have to look into this. At the moment I have an account with Clydesdale in the UK and have a Debit Mastercard. But I've had issues finding cash machines when I've been in Canada, which would let me withdraw money out using my card. Only ones that would are the ones in gas stations that are like the Link cash machines we get in the UK.

I must admit I have tried twice to transfer money from my UK account (Barclay's) to my Canadian account (RBC) and got so frustrated at the process I gave up.

It might be Barclay's online process that is annoying - you need the IBAN and all account numbers, which I have, but twice it crapped out on me saying the address I had was wrong (first time) and second time saying it could be done through the UK bank to which RBC is affiliated.

I have been rather lazy because I haven't tried it again so will be interested to hear from anyone who has managed it and what they did!

They make it so difficult now because of all the money laundering going on. I've had to pay large fees in the past to transfer money to Canada

Use an online transfer company. I used Tranzfers to send money from the UK to Canada many times when I was living in the UK. It's super easy, quick and really cheap. If you are sending large amounts, then check out Tranzfers parent company, OzForex.

Thank you - I will check this out!

That's who I use. Costs a few quid and usually the funds are moved within a few days.

Just write a cheque on your UK account and pay it in to your Canadian account. We have done this many times, even for very large amounts.

Are you in Canada - I could see that working quite well - I should check to see if RBC has any UK representation so I can do that from here

I did that as well but found that I got much better exchange rates using the online company.
