HI everyone,

So I am a Swedish citizen who got his study permit approved for the January semester.
I have already moved to Canada while waiting for my studies to start in January, I do have two questions about transferring to a different institution.

Firstly, I got my study permit for a two-year diploma program in social service work and I was considering doing an accelerated nursing program with a different university. What are the possibilities of doing this ? Do I have to contact Ircc about this? if so how do I do it?

Secondly, WIll i be qualified for Post work permit visa after my studies in the nursing program I'm aiming to enrol in?

Hope to get feedback soon..

Many Thanks

You need to apply for a new study permit if you want to switch DLIs.

Whether you'll qualify for a PGWP will depend on the school and program. Almost certainly yes but not possible to say without knowing that info.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply, but I read on the internet not long ago you can transfer to another school without having to make a new study permit application. I am already with a study permit and living in Canada now, will reapplying for another permit make my stay illegal?

I've read that you have two options:

1. Apply for a new study permit for your new DLI.

2. Study at least one semester at your approved DLI, and then inform IRCC that you are switching DLI.

I don't know what the specific procedure is for option #2 but there is plenty of information in the forum about it. You should search the forum for something like "switching DLI".

One question, if your SP was approved for the January 23 term, when did you enter Canada? Did you have any issues because entering so early?

Do I have to do one semester, from my understanding it should not be a problem changing university and a program since both program comes with ost work visa.

I just drove from the states to canada and I was asked why I was moving earlier before my studies resume and I gave them a good reason.

Is the nursing program at a different DLI? If so, then you need to study at the first for a semester and then swith or apply for a new study permit. IRCC changed the rules over a year and now you have to prove you “actively studied “ at the first school (at least a semester). Your permit was granted based on your first DLI and program. Nothing to doing with working.
