So I've just submitted my application for residency under common law. Now I'm wondering whether I have to apply for an extension for my work permit with a IMM5710, or will I be ok to work, due to "implied status" while CIC are sorting out my application?
Cheers

a pr application ALONE does not give someone implied status. a pr applicant gets implied status when they apply inland AND they also submitted an application for an OWP at the same time. the implied status is for the OWP application, not for the PR application. Did you apply inland or outland? If you applied outland (or did not submit an OWP with your inland application), then you must apply to either extend your work permit or change your status to visitor until you are approved as an outland applicant (or approved for an inland OWP). If you have not gotten an extension of your current permit (or received an OWP), then any work done beyond the validity of your current work permit will be illegal.

Too bad you didn't include the OWP with your Inland application.

When does your current status in Canada expire?

Thanks for the replies!!

I have a 'working holiday' visa which is about to expire in a matter of days, but also a student visa with a work permit, that expire in August.

I wanted to get everything in before the first visa expired just to be safe. I haven't actually sent off my package yet though, was just about to. I have everything ready for the OWP application here, so I can still send them together. I apply using the IMM5710 form right?

Doesn't the guide for the work permit extensions say to send them to Alberta though, not the Mississauga address?
