Hi lovely folks.

Recent category based draws will have NOC 41400 under in demand NOCs. My job duties align with it but my title (Sr medical writer) in my current company is not among the example titles listed under NOC 41400. However, it is not listed under exclusions of NOC 41400. Moreover, it is a standalone title under a different NOC 51112 that is not under the recent in-demand NOCs of category based draws.

What should I do guys. Does this mean I should not change my NOC code from current 51112 to 41400 ? And rather wait for general draws. My crs is low (440) and will be 480 in January 2024 after one year of Canadian work exp.

This situation is so difficult. Pls help.

What field are you in - natural and applied sciences or the medical field. Right now your NOC is a health policy researcher as a medical writer and you want to change to natural and applied sciences. As long as your job responsibilities match and you meet the main statement…Natural and applied science policy researchers, consultants and program officers conduct research, prepare reports, provide consultation and advice and administer programs in a variety of areas related to the natural and applied sciences.

If a medical writer would you not be,
  • Health policy researchers, consultants and program officers (See 41404 Health policy researchers, consultants and program officers)

Thanks for reply. No medical writer does not come under 41404. It is 51112.

But my job duties also align with 41400 (natural and applied science researcher)

My worry is not the listed exclusions of 41400. I am worried if visa officer might be concerned why I didn't choose 51112. My reason of not choosing that is because that is not under category based NOCs but 41400 is.

If you are in the natural and applied sciences then you should be okay. Your job must meet the lead statement.

Natural and applied science policy researchers, consultants and program officers conduct research, prepare reports, provide consultation and advice and administer programs in a variety of areas related to the natural and applied sciences. They are employed by federal, provincial and municipal governments, computer and office furniture manufacturers, educational institutions, research organizations, consulting firms, environmental and conservation organizations, or they may be self-employed

You cannot pick just the job responsibilities beause there is a NOC for health researchers/writers. Don’t get into misrepresentation.

Thanks. Yes. The main statement matches with what I do. With all due respect I think you didn't understand what I am trying to say.

Although my job duties match with 41400 they also match with 51112. So my question here is can I choose 41400. However, my title is Senior Scientific writer (the scientific part matches 41400 but writer part matches 51112). FYI: 51112 is not in category based NOCs. Thanks. :)

Job title doesn’ matter. Job duties do. You should be concerned with NOC that aligns with your duties.
