We haven't had PPR yet, but I'm just wondering, when my partner receives the letter that he has been accepted into Canada, how long do they give you to enter? We're wondering to make sure he has adequate time to properly wrap things up back in the UK.

Thank you!

I just got my PPR, and in the letter they included a date which was just before the one year from when I did my medicals... So you will need to enter Canada before that date in order not to loose it and have to apply again

I'm pretty sure you can land and then go back to the UK to wrap things up there and bring your things in later, after you land.

The time limit on when he'll have to land by is the expiration of his passport or of his medicals, whichever comes first (usually medicals)

Thank you for your replies!

Are you sure it goes on the dates of the medicals? I ask because my partner had his done in March of this year. We've had sponsorship approval, but heard nothing from the visa office (London), unless they give him the go ahead pretty soon, it doesn't give him much time at all!
Mississauga really messed us around, it took them four months just to give us sponsorship approval. We got sponsorship approval on Sept 22nd. I check the CIC website every day to see if it has been updated with an 'in progress', but there is nothing yet. Surely they won't make us do the medicals again because of their lackadaisical ways?

They can make you do the medicals again.

While its not unheard of to ask the applicant to re-do medicals, the chances are they weill not.. looking at your timeline, I would say you will get an in-process shortly.. I did my medicals March 2010 and my PR Visa that will be affixed on my passport will expire February.. I f they are no big issues id think your PPR should come soon. How on earth did it take 4months to get QSC?? Mine took 3weeks... Hope this helps

Thank you both.

Hey Vic, I don't know why it took so long. We sent everything on May 13th and it was received on May 16th, after speaking with the call centre numerous times, they didn't even pick it up to start working on it until the beginning of August. I think it was put in the wrong pile to be honest. As I say, we received sponsorship approval on Sept 22nd and the website hasn't been updated to say 'in progress' yet, so I don't even know if anyone is working on it! It's so frustrating! Plus the fact that my partner's deadline to be here is March! I really hope they let us know soon!!!

Hi

They give you a validity date in the letter they send you when they ask you for your passport. I think the visa lasts for nearly a year. But if your passport expires before that date, then you have to land before the expiry of your passport. Basically, you have to land in Canada before your passport or the visa expires, whichever date comes first. Once you land in Canada, you can go back to your country to finalize everything there if needed. As long as you touch Canada before the expiry date you're good to go :D

Or the medical. You can't land with an expired medical. Medical is valid for a year.

You got Sponsorship approval, the day I was asked to RPRF. If you paid the full fee, I will expect you to hear good news soon... It was their fault for the delay really...

Yes, sorry I forgot to add that to my post. Thanks!
