I landed here in Canada on my PR on May of 2014. I have been in the country ever since then but 1 time. I had to leave to Europe to get my passport renew for a weeks time frame ( 7 days total).

End of this month, it will makes 4 years I been in Canada on my PR.

My question is. How long must I live in Canada before I can apply for citizenship? My wife said I could, due to some article she read. I was thinking you must live in Canada for 6 years out of the 3 or 4? I can't really find the updated source of information online.

Thank you. M

So hold on I am confused. At the end of this month it makes it 4 years. So do I need to wait the 5 years now? 2017 already has passed.
Nop, it just means that they only consider the days you spent in Canada in the last 5 years.
But you can send your application at any time after you're above the 1095 threshold in this 5 years timeframe.
It's your case, and you have plenty of buffer, so go for it!

Good luck :)

What about https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/canadian-citizenship.html
For sure the information there is up to date.

And to calculate if you are eligible to apply use the physical presence calculator at https://eservices.cic.gc.ca/rescalc/resCalcStartNew.do
Thank you, I went to http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/citizenship/check-eligibility.asp this site was very helpful and does explain it and is on a verified website. So I will trust this information.

Thank you so much. One last question. I grew up in the USA illegally for 15 years and did schooling there. I was born in Europe. I speak French and English but I would rather take the test in English.

How can I show proof for this?

"I am between 18 and 54 and I have proof that I have knowledge of English or French"

Have you made any false representations to Canadian authorities about your illegal residence in the USA? If you haven't, don't start now.

No when I had applied for the paper work such as my PR here in Canada. It asked me if I was ever kicked out of any country and anything else. I told them. I was illegal since age 6 as a child then left as an adult etc. I was allowed to come and go as I please to Canada. Even gave them the Lawyer who did fraud paper work so yeah I guess that covered me cause it was in the system that they can prove.

Okay thank you. I had bad grades. Could a high school diploma work?
