Time allowed per year to stay as a tourist

Hi everyone,

I know the maximum time I can stay in Canada is six months at a time. But if i fly out and back in, can I stay for an additional six months? Or is it six months per year. I am Spanish (if that makes a difference).

It completely depends on what CBSA do when you return. There is no specific rule and you can apply for an extension while you are still in Canada, if you would prefer to not leave.

My Mom is holding a tourist visa they gave her six months and that was due March, but then last week of January we applied for extension but until now no response yet from the immigration, until when can we wait for the result. Until when my mom can stay. Thank you and hoping for your reply.

She can stay until a decision is made on the extension application. See "Implied Status". You should probably check that IRCC has received the application however.

As a rule of thumb you should spend more time out of Canada than in Canada in the last year. There is nothing written in this regard, but a 6 month stay followed by an immediate 6 month stay will be severely questioned by CIC and refusal is a real possibility.

Also, it is not like you get 6 months each time you enter. The CBSA officer will assess you and will determine if 6 months or less time is given to you, you can be given from days and up to 6 months. If you make too frequent and long visits, then your period will surely be less each time.

If you do attempt to come again immediately after a 6 month stay then prepare to be heavily questioned. Carry documents that prove your business in Canada and financial capability to sustain yourself for such long periods of time without working.

We have a proof that the mail was received because we sent it through registered mail. But thank you for your advise, i tried calling IRCC but my call cant get through :'(
