What is CAIPS? I have read about it on this forum but not sure what exactly is it? Is it some secure way of getting information about your file? Is it different from e-cas? And what is the procedure to get it?

Kindly if you can help me, please. Thanks.

CAIPS stands for Computer Assisted Immigration Processing System. It allows you to see what the IO has entered into the computer system regarding your case and application status. From my understanding, they request that you wait until your application has reached the application average processing times (so I think that's 11 months now? which is where I'm at..) to order them. They say that if you order them too early, you will either get a pretty blank CAIPS note return, or that it can even extend your processing time. So it's really a toss up.

If you are living in Canada, are a Canadian resident, or citizen, it is free. If not it's only $5 to order them. There is a form that you fill out, you check the CAIPS box, and preferred language (ie. English, or French) blah blah blah. I will post a link that you can read about it. I would suggest if your application is straight forward and you have not been requested for additional information or required an interview to wait a couple more months before considering. But that's just my two cents.

So waiting for passport request. I hope it comes anytime sooner. I guess I am among the very few from Nov, 2010 group who did not get their PPR yet.

Your timeline is almost exactly the same as ours! So don't worry you are not the only one from the November group who didn't get PPR yet

I wonder if it has to do with the fact that I am not an American citizen but processed there because I live in Canada. Are you American?
Or maybe because it's a common-law application as opposed to being married....
I am not quite sure why ours seems to take relatively longer than other people's and I really think there is no clear reason because ours should be really straightforward (I am European, would be able to apply under both Experience Class and Skilled Worker as well, my sponsor has a very good job etc)

SO. I just got an email from my grandmother (whom my American mailing address is with) and she told me to call her because I got something in the mail from CIC...I just about peed my pants waiting for her to answer the phone...

Well, it was not a PPR, but my initial assessment...? My medicals are officially recieved, no additional documents needed, and I think my interview has been waived, (although she read to me that even though an interview is not needed at this time that they can still call me for an interview at a later date)..Is what I am describing the initial assessment letter that was earlier discussed? It also read something like I am in the final stage before decision??

Is this good news?? :-\ ???

We got our initial assessment in the mail today. Interview has been waived, medicals have arrived, and no more documents are required. So excited!!!

Going out with my SO to celebrate tonight. Question: Has anyone ever been called for an interview after the initial assessment says they will not require a personal interview to finish processing the application?

So I believe this is what I just got in the mail today! I was wondering the same thing..How long do you think it will be before we get decisions? And, what do you think this means, (ie. We're going to get a PPR soon?) I'm excited and nervous!!

Since they don't need an interview or any more documents, I would say it's very good news and you should get your PPR without any more trouble. Just a little more waiting. It's rare for them to give you a no without an interview (I've never heard of it happening, but, as always, CIC reserves the right to be inconsistent and lame.)

It's random, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't consider a best case scenario. There's quite a few people who got their PPR just 3-4 weeks after their initial assessment/AOR on the Buffalo spreadsheet, so there's always hope! ;D

I got my initial assessment back in early July 2010. PPR March 9th.
It seems completely random however to me, you'll see someone say 2 weeks, then someone like me whose time from assessment to finish is longer then other people took in total... go figure!

I'm just guessing that it will not be as long for her after IA because she has waiting so long for her IA. As always CIC is inconsistent and you can't plan on anything, but there have been several recent applications that were approved a few weeks after their IA.
