Let me add one more to the congrats!

The easiest, if you are close to the border is to drive down into the US and then drive back up to Canada, landing on your way back. Don't forget to take your B4 with you!

Thank you so much but do i have to enter USA and then come back to Canada or I do not need to enter USA ? if i want to enter to USA I have to have a visa. I came to Canada as a student and after that I got a work permit.

That was fast Rouge! My husbands passport was received in Buffalo on Monday March 26th. I'll be flying out west on Canada's May two-four weekend to meet him, and then driving across the country on the I-80 to land at the Port Huron/Sarnia border. Anyone landing there?

Correct me if I'm wrong anyone.. but from what I've read, you have to exit Canada and re-enter at a port of entry to properly land. Either USA or another country. Not sure if you'd be able to drive to a port of entry and park on one side and walk over to the office or not.

A friend of mine landed last week. She's Swedish with a US Green Card and has been splitting her time between Canada and the US while waiting for PR. When it came, she drove from Vancouver to the BC/Washington border to do the exit/entry landing. When she explained that she was going to do a U-turn and reenter for landing, the US border guard explained that they had to do a formal "rejection" - but one that wouldn't go on her permanent record or carry any penalties. So she technically left Canada, turned around in no-man's-land, and reentered Canada.

Long story short, it's possible that you'll be able to use a US border to land in Canada even if you require a visa to get into the States. Try calling your local US border office, explain your situation, and see what they say. Good luck!

Hi Pmary.

Congrats to you (and to all the others with good news recently).

As has been stated, you have to drive over the border, turn around and come back IN to Canada.

Most who don't need a visa to enter the USA will stay a couple of days, do some shopping etc and then come back.

The reason for this is the border guards will (if you are literally just turning around and coming back) issue you with a refusal to enter the states and send you back to Canada. Nothing to be afraid of - just common practice.

The only reason some people advise against this is because in the future if you are ever asked if you have been refused entry into another country, you have to answer yes.

Again, its nothing too bad, but can just create some minor probems in time.
