I recieved a 60 day letter (dated 6th Jan) for new police certs and for the rprf fee!

A little bizarre really as I paid it upfront, though I did tick the box on the application form that said "I" paid the fees, so 4 months ago was sent a checque from CIC to refund this, and then re requested as above for my hubby - the sponsor - to pay it.

Interview waived so it looks like its pretty much all over bar the shouting (and more waiting )

Odd- it makes no difference who pays the fees, sponsor or applicant (I actually paid all of my own fees as the PA). Did the original police cert expire?

It seems to depend on when your meds are good until/when your passport expires/etc. My COPR stated I had to land by Oct. 22, 2012 I think (it's not right next to me right now), but my passport expires in April so I think technically the COPR was only good until then since otherwise the biometric date on the COPR would have changed.

I think they generally give quite a few months for landing, but I don't think I've ever heard of a set time period.

A few months would work just fine. I guess that's what I've seen happen to friends from South America but wondered if they gave more time since they weren't actually inside the country.

Yup it did!!!!! The letter also has the phrase bolded that states CPC MISSISSAUGA REQUIRES THAT YOUR SPONSOR PAY YOUR RIGHT OF PERMANENT RESIDENCE FEE.

That's the maximum that I've heard from others here.

So is 3-4 week turnaround from sending passport copy and getting COPR back the max you've seen? How long do they usually give to activate it?

As for activating it, I don't know what you mean. Once you get the COPR, you're ready to go and land. You'll just have to land before it expires.

Well mine was technically something like 10 mths, since it was printed Dec. 15, 2011 and good until close to the end of October 2012. I just had the hiccup of my passport expiring in the middle of that, but thankfully I was ready to land right away so it was never an issue. I'm not certain what would have happened if I had waited until after I renewed my passport, but I was afraid it would mean having to return my COPR and get a new one issued.

You know you can always land and then import your goods later on, right? You just have to give them a list of goods you'll be importing when you do your landing. I think you mentioned earlier going to buy a bunch of stuff in the U.S. before landing (you may have been joking, but just in case you weren't), and while I don't know if it matters for smaller stuff I do know that you have to have been the owner of your vehicle for at least 6 mths for it to qualify for duty-free export/import as a permanent resident. Just in case you decided you wanted to trade in your car and get a new one before officially making the move.

I AM in Canada now, on visitor status (waiting extension approval), seems like there is something to the transfer and in-Canada connection.

When was your police cert taken? Is it FBI or Canadian one that's expired? I have one of my police certs expired and I don't know if I should request a new one or wait until Buffalo requests it.

Yes, my mailing address is my sister's home in Oregon. Once my visitor extension is approved, I'll update the address to my hubby's here in Canada.

I am in precisely the same situation as awor - my app just got bumped to Los Angeles, and I am also on a visitor's visa in Canada with my husband. I assume this is... good progress?

I think it is diadema. From what I can see with a super-quick google search, it looks like most LA transfers get approved in 2-6 weeks, some 8 weeks, only a few go much longer.

By activating it I meant using it to cross, as in activating the OHIP wait period.

I do know about importing goods later, but I don't have any. I sold my car and house and everything in it when we moved here two years ago. We fit anything we didn't sell in a couple suitcases and came on up. I had thought about getting an American car when we first moved, but didn't seem worth it, but hadn't noticed the six month thing. All my research turned up was that you couldn't ship a new car across, but you could drive one across. So if I was wrong about that, good thing I didn't try.

So yes, I am actually planning on ordering as much stuff on Amazon that will fit in my car and crossing with it and taking advantage of the one time-mega duty free crossing.
