You're actually getting replies from them? Jealous. When did you request the notes that you're still waiting for?

i am still writing back and forth with ATIP department regarding my notes request and I would say they are good at what they do and appreciate that they respond to emails, although I still have not received them. :-[

Someone else might have it around this date. But on the same date would be quite unlikely.

Could really use some advice. I'm trying to decide if I should fly to Buffalo, rent a car and get a hotel to get my visa, at a great expense, so that I can land when I fly back to BC in two weeks from tonight...

OR

If its okay to land in Vancouver with a printout of the PPR, I can even have my goods to bring and bring later forms filled out, and tell the border guard that I didn't have time to mail passport to Buffalo but that I will be mailing it from Vancouver asap.

Thoughts? I can't decide if arriving in Vancouver without Visa will pose a problem, if I should have a return ticket, etc.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

You can't land with the PPR letter. You need the PR visa which you can only get by submitting your passport to the Buffalo visa office.

Thanks, scylla, I understand I can't land with the letter, but am wondering if they'll hassle me about a return ticket or how long I'm staying etc.? I usually try to have a return ticket within 6 months just in case whenever I arrive in Canada, but as I'm planning to stay, don't want to purchase a ticket if I don't need to. Its just going to be really hard for me to get the visa in the next two weeks, so I want to wait and mail off my passport when I return to Vancouver, but don't want to run into any problems when I arrive! So complicated!

Sorry - I didn't understand your question!

You're from the US - right? (Traveling on a US passport?) Between that and the PPR letter, I personally don't think you should have any problems entering on a one way ticket.

thanks, scylla! yes, from the US, on a US passport. i've just come this far and am so nervous that i'll mess something up on the last bit! but i'm sure it will be fine. i'll have all my records and paperwork and will just be honest...

watched the new movie "like crazy" last night where the girl overstays a travel visa and is denied access to the us (and her love) for years and its got me paranoid!

In my completely non professional, non-experienced opinion. I would think you'd be fine. If you didn't have the PPR you'd likely get in, if you had your passport back, you'd get in. So what's the difference. I'd go for it personally, as long as it was going up as a visit in which you're going to mail away your passport, not like a pre-landing... Only because as we've all heard some of those officers can be jerks.

I think you'll be fine, too... as long as you still "look" like a visitor.

DO NOT bring your goods to land. If you do, you won't look like a visitor, and a best-case scenario is that they charge you import duties on the items that will remain in Canada.

You might consider e-mailing Buffalo and ask their advice. I found that e-mails to the address used to send the PPR were answered VERY promptly and accurately! If you reply and ask if there's any way you could get 24 hour turnaround, then you'd get a better idea.

Wow, that is a long wait. Did you select "GCMS" or "Visa file" on the request form?

That means CPCM approved the spousal sponsorship on March 7. As Mississauga immediate forwards the PR portions to visa offices upon sponsorship approval, Buffalo received it on the 17th. I don't know why they are making him wait until December for an interview, but hopefully they can make their decision right then and there and issue the visa while he is still in Buffalo.
