Indeed. I thought it was weird that they wanted me to send the passport to Detroit, instead of Buffalo. Guess I really did read the notes right after all.

I also thought it was a little strange that they asked me to send in the passport immediately, instead of 'within thirty days' as other people have reported. I'm beginning to wonder if they've been trying for some time to get a hold of me.

Congrats mjh!! It makes me happy to see movements in Buffalo :)

Quince777 and Veronica.law, how did you guys receive the AOR from Buffalo? Is it through email or snail mail? And is it sent to applicant or sponsor? I am still waiting for an AOR from them... Another thing, it seems that the AOR only says the day that Mississauga initially received the application, not the actual day that Buffalo received it.. is that right?

I have a question....

I didn't receive any special instructions as to how to send my passport away, other than 'send the passport and two passport sized' photos, and I'm looking to get my passport back without any hangups.

To help do that, when I send to Detroit the stuff that they want, I'm planning to stuff in a self-addressed, flat rate envelope like one of those 'if it fits, it ships' deals I see on the TV as advertised by the US Postal Service. Naturally, both the outbound, and the inbound envelopes will have tracking numbers on them, and I think I would prefer signature confirmation as well.

Now, is it a good idea to write on the envelopes my visa file numbers on them so the visa office doesn't lose track of these envelopes? And, is there anything else that I could be possibly forgetting?

They should be giving people an option to send photocopies of the entire passport at this point. And they should have linked you to the instructions here: http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/buffalo/visas/submit_soumettre.aspx?view=d.

Umm....no, it's not normal at all. I have never heard of the case processing centre at Mississauga confirming receipt of applications before this.

Nope not sponsor approval, just an email from cic acknowledging receipt of the application at cpc-m, but I'll take it! :)

Yeah, they didn't do that, either, but thanks for the link. It helped to answer my questions.

I received my AOR by e-mail that I included in the app package. Yeah, it states that they received app on Sep.2 which is the day when it was received by Mississauga. When was your app filed?
My app was received sep 27. Hmm.. I received sponsor approval via snail mail. They never emailed me or my husband anything until now tho we included both our emails in the app. I wonder if they'll send AOR via snail mail too..

That must be a new procedure from CIC because this is first time I see this happening.

I wouldn't count on that. My spouse was snail mailed her sponsor approval, while my PPR was emailed. Apparently, so was my AOR, but they had my email address wrong, (probably due to my chickenscratch handwriting) so I gently prodded them for one.

5 months is nothing. Some were done in a little over 4 months and that includes an initial 2 month wait with Mississauga. Sigh..........who knows how much longer until I am out of this immigration hell.

When Buffalo is to busy with apps they send them to one of there outsources to help out.
There is no certain time when you will recieve PR.Some people have waited a year some 5 months its a toss up.
The best way to get status is to order GCMS notes.I dont have the website wright off hand but it is in this thread or I know someone will chime in with it for you.
