I landed today in Pearson :)

So happy! Hope everyone who is waiting gets some news soon!

Congratulations and Welcome to Canada!!

This is so annoying...

Husband landed 7.5 weeks ago. Yesterday a letter arrived from CIC. He ripped it open, assuming it was his PR card, and did not see who it was addressed to. No PR card, it was a letter inside, with HIS address and his HIS client ID number, but someone else's name! It says that his pictures were not good enough for the ID card, so he has an appt on Nov 22 to go to the CIC office in Edmonton and submit new photos.

Annoying because...

1) His photos submitted with the application were perfect. We assume they were lost between Accra and Canada
2) With the wrong name on the letter, he has to call to ensure this was meant for him. There is no phone number for the local office, so he is on hold (again!) with the main CIC line. I think you all know how long it takes to finally get ahold of someone there!
3) He has to take a morning off work and go downtown to submit his pictures in PERSON, rather than just being able to submit by mail or drop them off at his convenience. There is a strong warning on the letter about how important it is to show at the appointment.

Ugh...I thought we were done.

One more thing...did anyone else know that once you have lived as a PR for 3 years and can apply for citizenship that it takes an additional 18-24 months to get citizenship? I had no idea! Figured it would take 6 weeks or so. It's important for us because a Nigerian Passport really limits his travel ability -he'd have to get a visa just to go to the US. So we want him to have a Cdn Passport as soon as possible.

Unfortunaley the citizenship part is correct. My husband submitted for Canadian citizenship over 7 months ago and just recently got a letter acknowledging that that confirmed reciept of his application. We are hoping his citizenship process will be over soon, so he can travel to the U.S. to see my family without a visa. It seems no matter what you want to do with immigration in canada takes a long time. I am still waiting for my PR even though my application was recieved the end of May, but yet people who filed way after me ahve PR makes no sense to me. I am glad that your process went so fast and I hope my process will be over soon as well.

hi there

my wife had same problem, she was asked to send new photos...my pr card arrived after about 50 days or so, i lost count ,her pr card arrived after 3 or 4 months because of this photo issue, its very slow...i read is 6 months for citizenship ,however im not surprised if it will be 18-24 months, living for 2 months in canada i find it very different to europe, i hope i will not get to the culture shock stage :)

That is very annoying.

When we arrived at the border in Saskatchewan the IO measured the photo of my husbands head and opted to take another one just in case the one he supplied wasnt the right size. I wouldnt have even imagined that was possible until they did it. With the amount of time they have you there it would be so much smarter for them to just take the picture there when you land. Sheesh.

bobshynoswife -

Yes, citizenship processing isn't exactly fast. Based on the reading I did a few months ago, there are people getting it around the 15th month mark. But others are certainly waiting longer - especially if the get RQ.

I can understand why you are so eager to obtain a Canadian passport for your husband. A Nigerian passport must be absolutely brutal to travel on.
