It is nice that ur friend has decided to land at Calgary. Let me try to answer ur question in sereatim :
1 & 2 :- Notwithstanding the fact that ur friend can land anywhere, it is better to complete landing formalities at declared POE, SO AS TO WARD OFF ANY COMPLEXITIES.

3). Calgary is a nice place, but one has to be tough to withstand the onslaught of weather in winter . As of now, we have extended winter. Now coming to cost factor (BACKED BY INFORMATION COLLECTED) it may be segmented as under :-

Average Rental cost = CAD750.00,
C/O of Grocery for two = cad1000.00
Misc. Expenses =Depending how one styles to live by.
Rest my friend SM001 JI has very correctly EXPLAINED.

any time is good to do a wise thing.

one shud see, when they can leave india (after finishing tasks back home)
and reach there, and start finding working after few basic formalities.

wen people used to advice, wait till summer- my reply was 'why not winters, wen we ll be having lesser rivalry'.

wish i cud reach in winters........

I got my SIN number, opened bank account and deposited draft that I brought from India and will be encashed in 5 days, and will apply for credit card in a day or two. In Ontario, there is a wait period of 90 days for health card. I will apply next month and it will be active from 91st day of landing.

Now the biggest task begins ("job search").

It can be any account and even normal savings account....I sent some cash to my own savings account in India from an ICICI Bank branch...As I didn't have an account here with them, they charged me $20.

I think if you send it from your own account here, the charges would be nominal....

No. The money you earn in Canada is taxed, and you will get the pay after tax deduction only. Others can comment though if I am not correct.

I deposited some cash in my Indian account and I didn't pay any tax. I just paid the bank charges.

Isn't it taxed ?

Congrats for opening account. In which bank u have opened the account? Can u tell me is there our Indian bank like BOB, BOI, etc etc…..and
Before ur HEALTH card come if u get ill or some like that u can get medical benefit s there might be very costly charges of doctors.

SIN card is one type of Identity? By which we can open account and other things?
