No ...Visa quota is always for number of persons.

After pre-feb mess, MI1 was introduced to have a cap on intakes.
8000 was the no. of files
not the no. of persons.

In any case, all VO took out the cap system and was advised to finish all applications quickly and all are asked to finish as many files by 31st December.

So why the comments going back in circles????

No more cap limit for MI1 , MI2 & MI3

Most of us will get the visa before 31st Dec
Some have to wait till the first qtr of 2013

Don't bring anymore old figures here...

Hi, have you received any letter saying that you have to wait 6-12 months from the processing date?

I think this wait letters have been issued only by London VO. No other visa offices have issued such letters.

Latest videos on Kenney on immigration

One good thing on the twitter was our relatives can sponsor us probably from 2013
They will welcome more immigrants from 2013
(a) priority more students
(b) second priority - to give PR to exisiting students there
(c) thinking about giving rights to citizens to sponsor their relatives
(d) another MI which will be very tough (new applicants would require international certifications and to pass the point system can be hard)
(e) to obtain work permit _ (which is again hard)

There is a freeze on FSW. Not sure whether it will be in the same stage till Dec 2012.

First 6 months of 2013 - there will be plenty of immigration (including all classes - students/economic/skilled etc.)

Nothing is clear for MI1 still.
Awaiting more clear comments from him for MI1.

Krishnadas

Backlog of skilled immigrant applications gone by end of 2013

The Harper government says a backlog of skilled immigrant applications, which has clogged the system for years, is declining rapidly and will be eliminated by the end of next year.

Immigration Minister Jason Kenney says about 100,000 applications are still in the system, compared with 640,000 just a few years ago.

He told a news conference the eradication of the waiting list means a new immigrant labour pool from which employers and provinces can choose will be established ahead of schedule.

The backlog was culled by a measure in last spring's contentious omnibus bill, which threw out 280,000 applications filed prior to 2008, a controversial move that saw the federal government refund $130 million in application fees.

Without flushing the system, it was estimated the backlog wouldn't be cleared until 2017, but the decision is being challenged in court by lawyers who plan to launch a class-action lawsuit on behalf of people whose applications were wiped out.

Kenney says by the end of next year, the government will be able to process skilled immigrant applications within a year, rather than eight years, which had become the norm.

He says the reforms are “finally unshackling Canada from the outrageous backlogs and wait times of the past” and will bring people who are likely to find and keep good jobs into the country.

“The system had become totally dysfunctional. It was broken, and it was getting worse,” Kenney said. “Strong action was necessary.”

The Conservatives in 2008 imposed limits on the number of skilled immigrant applications they would accept and with that action alone, Kenney says, the backlog was sliced in half.
