Hi,

Yes, contacting these agencies will help you find out the status of your immigration security screening and also, you would be able to figure out where exactly your file is stuck. At this stage, all IRCC / local visa offices will tell you is that your background checks are in progress and they can't do anything about your file unless this step is completed.

For me, it has been more than 16 months. Everything is passed/met as per GCMS notes. Security is blank, and IRCC says my background checks are still in progress. It took less than a month for CSIS to deal with my immigration security screening, and it's been almost a year since CSIS was done with my case.
Next, CBSA - I am awaiting a response.

Have you requested GCMS notes? What does your local visa office say is the reason for the delay?
If answer is the same, i.e., the background checks, then delay is probably from one of the security agencies (CSIS, RCMP, CBSA).

Thanks for the quick reply. I called the call center, they told me that all is OK with the application, currently it's pending security check for my wife with the London office, i guess that's the regional office for EMEA.

How do I request the GCMS notes? Would requesting them affect the application?

If you're in Canada or have a Canadian relative, friend, and/or a contact, GCMS notes can be requested from this link:
https://atip-aiprp.apps.gc.ca/atip/

If above option is not possible, google 'request GCMS notes' and you'll get a list of online service providers.

Edit: Requesting GCMS notes will not have any negative effect on your application, it doesn't affect the processing of an application.

Hey Guys,

Just curious to know. When I look at my Application/profile status page where it actually mentions the below listed details:
- Application/profile status: Open
- Review of eligibility: Review in Progress
- Review of medical results: Passed
- Review of submitted documents: Provided
- Scheduling an interview: Not needed at this time
- A background check is needed: In progress
- Final decision: Not Started

Just below the above information, there is a 'Correspondence' section wherein it mentions the date when my Request Letter was sent which actually was July 24th 2016 and right next to it, it mentions the date when it was READ. That is - Feb 20th 2017. ??? What does it mean? ???

Does it mean they opened my application after 6-7 months?
Does it mean that they already opened my application sometime back but read the request letter just now?

Guys, help me figure out what exactly it is?

Hello Manutd84

The correspondence section is for the communication between you and the CIC. The letter sent date, is the date they sent you the letter and it was attached to the correspondence section. The date read, is the date you opened the letter and the attachment if any. if you have opened it again on the 20th, i might have updated for that date. But considering that your application is progressing and that you provided the additional documents they requested then its nothing to worry about.

Make sure that there are no new letters though.
