hi everyone,,,im here in edmonton alberta and holding a temporary work permit and i found a partner here in canada who is willing to marry me,,,i know that same sex marriage here in edmonton is already allowed and im just wondering that if i marry my partner in canada,is there any chance that i will get citizenship here in canada eventhough the marriage is for same sex??,shall i get the citizenship automaticall once the marriage is done??,i just want to weigh things before i decide,,please help me,,thank you......

Your partner can sponsor you for PR (Permanent Residence) after you have married. There is no automatic citizenship. It seems you are just starting out, so I advise you to go to www.cic.gc.ca for more information.

It makes no difference if you are same-sex or opposite-sex, btw.

i see,,,,thnx for the information guys....

one can get automatic citizenship only being a child of Canadian. otherwise you must have lived in Canada for at least three years (1,095 days) in the past four years before applying after being PR.
