Thinking of doing grad school in UBC as a newly landed PR

Hello ! I am in the last steps of the skilled worker PR program (just waiting for the med exams) and I'm from El Salvador; I have a BS in Engineering Management from a US University , but seeing how hard it seems to get a [good] job right after landing, I am considering applying to grad school (I would absolutely love UBC) and try and get a Teacher or Research Assitant position in order to get an advanced Canadian degree and be able to get some experience and familiarity with the country before jumping to the job market. Now, the issue is that I will not have that much money available, and my family is not by any means wealthy. Ok, so after all this exposition, my question is: as a newly landed inmigrant, would it even be possible to apply for a student loan or grant (being private or from the gov`t) ??? Thank you for your help!
