Things consider as a work permit holder when I go out of Canada for childbirth?

I got my work permit under skilled labour (after getting labour market opinion) and my wife got open work permit as a dependant. We entered Canada in March 2015 and we both have work permit till March 2018. My wife is pregnant now and she would like to go back India for childbirth. She is planning to come back to Canada few months after delivery (mid 2016), meanwhile I will work here. What are all things we should consider in terms of immigration? Specifically getting visa for the new born baby to enter into Canada. How long will it take to get dependant Visa for baby? Any thoughts will be helpful. Thanks in Advance.

Please, please and please, I will strongly advise against her returning back to India for childbirth, it will be challenging to get back with the baby. What ever your reasons for wanting her return to India for childbirth, kindly reconsider and have her deliver in Canada. As you already know, the baby shall automatically become a Canadian citizen and you will not have to undergo all the hustle and struggles of acquiring Visa and all what not to get the child back into Canadian soil. I believe your child will still have the opportunity of being a dual citizen (Canadian & Indian). Perhaps you guys are planning of having the baby in India because of the cost associated with health care in Canada and probably getting support from family and friends back in India. However be the case, source for whatever support you require in Canada, I believe there is an Indian community in your area , they can be of help when it comes to such! Goodluck!!!

Appreciate your input. She (we) would like to go back to India to get moral support and backup from our family back there. In case if we left with no other options, how hard it would be to get VISA for a child given that parents both of us have valid visa's. Please let us know if you have insight view on those formalities, procedures and timelines. Thank you!
