I would like to post the timeline of my work permit application, which may help people who are still waiting for the result or plan to apply.
Description of my case:
I did my online application for the work permit in the US since I did my Ph.D. here. I got a postdoc position in China but will spend my first year at one institute in Canada to conduct collaborative research. Based on the Q&A session, I need to apply for a work permit. Note that I applied in the U.S. within the two-month grace periods after graduation.
March, did the upfront medical exam
May 1st, online application submitted
May 2nd, biometric request letter received; medical exam passed; additional materials required;
The additional materials include: work history; imm5257b; proof of fund.
May 8: submitted the additional materials; conducted biometrics at a local application support center in the morning and biometric information received in the online account at noon;
May 9: background checking is in the process;
the additional materials are uploaded.
we are reviewing my eligibility
June 20: application is approved and the original passport is requested.
Until now, the additional materials are still uploaded but not reviewed. They are still reviewing my eligibility and checking my background. Thus, cic doesn't update the states frequently and don't get depressed when you see nothing changes.
The estimated processing time was three weeks when I applied but took about 7 weeks in total.
When I applied, I already provided the offer letter from my postdoc university with a good salary but they still request the proof of fund. Thus, I provided my deposit certification from my US bank as additional proof of fund letter.
