Hello All,

Just got a new job and they need to see a copy of my Marriage Certificate to officially declare my husband as a dependent. But all I have is the Thai certificate.

We did register at the embassy but I am not sure how to go about proving we are married now that we are in Canada? Can I ask a government office to provide a paper?

Any helpful advice?

Thank you.

BJ

The Thai marriage certificate is the official certificate for Canada as well. Any legal marriage done in any country in the world, is also legal in Canada. It just needs to be translated for whoever wants to see it (in this case your company).

This is absolutely correct. Just get your marriage certificate translated to English or French here in Canada I would lean towards English translation unless you are in the province of Quebec. For your own use get yourself and extra copy of the translation to keep in your own files.

Thank you.

I had it translated when I registered it at the Canadian Embassy in Bangkok... will see if I can find those copies.

Really appreciate your help the company seemed at a loss of how to proceed.
