Hello,

I am wondering if anyone can help me resolve an issue with my application for a temporary work permit.

I have applied to the Okanagan Hockey School in Penticton, BC and I in the eyes of their recruiting staff I am successful in gaining employment with them during the summer as a Councillor/On Ice Coach. However, my application has been rejected due to:

"You have not demonstrated that you come within the exceptions under section 186 of the regulations
exempting you from the requirement to obtain a work permit or that your employment in Canada comes
within the exceptions to section 203 of the regulations. As a result, your offer of employment must be the
subject of an economic effect determination before a work permit can be issued to you. Your employer in
Canada should contact the local office of the Department of Human Resources and Skills Development
Canada to begin this process."

I live in the United Kingdom (Scotland), I consider myself an intelligent human being, but I cannot understand the reasons for the rejection. To save myself another application fee I am trying to gain as much information as I can before reapplying.

Thanks,
Greig Henning

It means start reading the Canadian immigration web site and temporary foreign worker.

Your employer has to obtain a Labor Market opinion, this is basically a document that states no Canadian is suitable or able to do the work, therefore they need to employ a foreigner.

The employer has to advertise on a job bank for at least 2 weeks, also paid advertising. They must pay the going rate for the job etc.

You cannot just 'get a job' in Canada and expect a visa to work here.
