Hello!

Does anyone know much about TRPs? I'm thinking to apply for my husband while we wait for his PR.

- How do we apply for such a thing?
- How likely is it that we might be granted a TRP?

Does anyone have any experience with these? I've been reading about them on the CIC website, but it's a bit confusing.

TRPs (temproary resident permits) are typically used by those who are otherwise inadmissible to Canada (e.g. due to criminality). Is your husband inadmissible to Canada? If not, then he should be applying for a TRV instead (temporary resident visa).

Ahhhh! I thought I read here that TRPs were often issued to accompanying children who couldn't be separated from their parents during the PR process.

Can TRVs be valid for long periods of time? We'd like to stay in Canada (if at all possible) until our PR is approved.

Thanks for the reply!

Yes - TRPs are sometimes used for minors. (Sorry - I thought you were asking about your husband - not a minor child.)

However the first step is always the TRV. If the TRV is refused for a minor child then you can try for a TRP.

TRVs typically allow a six month visit. But you can apply to extend the visit from within Canada.

I am asking about my husband! Haha :) Sorry for the confusion. I guess I meant that if they were used for children, I didn't think they were exclusively for those who are inadmissible.

Anywho, thanks for the tips! Any idea about the success rate of getting such a thing before the PR is approved? We're living in Syria, so I'm hoping we might be admissible on humanitarian grounds.

Sorry - I'm still a bit confused by your question.

As an adult, your husband would use the TRP process if he is currently not allowed to enter Canada due to a crime, an exclusion order, a ban due to misrepresentation or something like that.

If he has no bar to entering Canada, then he should be applying for a TRV (not TRP). TRV success rates for individuals with Canadian spouses vary. However there is unfortunately some chance he will be refused since CIC may claim he's not a genuine visitor but wants to remain in Canada long term.
