TB test positive

Hi,
I use to work in a theraputic day school for children who have emotional, behavioral difficulties and abuse related problems. It was here that I was exposed to TB. I took the TB test before I started working there and it was negative and then after I left the agency and it was positive. It's an inactive form of the virus, meaning I cannot infect anyone unless it becomes active. Would this give CIC reason to reject my application? They have already asked for my RPRF. Do they look at medicals after that??

It is my understanding that some medical conditions warrant follow-up and monitoring that is all (latent TB is among them). Spousal applicants are not subject to the same restrictions as other applicants as far as being a potential burden on the medical system. I think if they are asking for your RPRF you do not need to be worried.

Yep, yep, yep....

They cannot refuse a spousal application for medical reasons.

Canada can, however, insist that a spouse that may have a contagious disease that could spread, has monitored health checks.

Very logical and helps everyone.

Your application will be fine.

They can do reject but in only HIV positive case.

I think when CIC's Doctors look over your meds they will determine if the TB will pose a threat to Canada. If this is the case, they will just ask that you get it treated or monitored providing that you can show them proof. Maybe a few pills to pop here and there or an injection. I don't think it'll be a biggie for you at all though. Don't stress a whole lot over this.

Thanks everyone for you advice and comments. My anxiety level has gone down for now. Just give me 5-10 minutes and I'll find something else to worry about, lol.

In spousal sponsorships, you cannot be denied based on Excessive Demand to the Canadian heathcare system (meaning treating you will cost too much money on average). However, you CAN be denied based on Danger to the Public Health. So it is erroneous to say you cannot be denied for medical reasons. It is also wrong to say that they only reject HIV positive cases. This is NOT the case in spousal sponsorships if only the presence of the virus is detected. Full blown AIDS will be rejected as will SARS, active TB and other highly contageous diseases as well as certain mental health issues that could be dangerous to the public.

Based on what was written, your positive TB test seems to indicate that you've been exposed to the virus but have not contracted it. This is common among teachers, doctors, nurses and other professions with high exposure/contact with the public. I'm assuming upon review of your chest X-rays, the RMO determined that you do not have an active form of the virus and nothing further is warranted, or if it is, they would have requested it by now. If you are issued a PR visa, no conditions regarding your medical condition will be attached to it.

You are incorrect. One can have HIV and be very healthy. Rejections do not occur solely based on HIV for family class. Canada is not an ignorant country when it comes to HIV.
If it is TB - you will be monitored.
