Hi,

I am facing a confusing situation regarding my income tax. I came to Canada mid December 2013 as a temporary worker. I started to work immediately but because paperwork for putting me into payroll took long, I received my December 2013 salary together with my January 2014 salary and had no T4 issued for me for 2013.
I filed all my taxes in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017.
Now, I am filling the citizenship forms, I am not sure if I had to file a return for 2013 or not even though I had no T4 and technically received no money in 2013.
I feel very nervous about it and I appreciate your help.

This won't be a problem. You were paid in 2014 and filed a tax return on that income. You've done nothing wrong and if a question comes up during your interview, use the same explanation. The question isn't likely to arise.

Thanks for your reply!
By the way, I looked at the requirements and it is "Filed tax returns for 3 years in the last 5 years if needed to". Does this mean that even if you had to file your tax returns for all 5 years but you filed for 3, still you are eligible? Or maybe I am missing something.

I think the best advice is to be up to date on your tax returns before applying. I presume you'll be giving IRCC approval to contact CRA on your behalf for any and all information pertaining to employment and tax returns, as most normally would do. I wouldn't want to guess what the person reviewing your case will make of missing returns where you've claimed full time employment.

Hi

You did not need to file 2013 taxes. Even if you had been paid for those few weeks of work in 2013, it would have been such a low amount, you still wouldn't have needed to file a return.
