Hey everyone
I know I have posted on this forum quite some times and iam being concerned about things that might be non realistic but at the same time I don't want anything to get in the way of smoothly getting my citizenship.
Given the above, I have filed my 2020 taxes early March and was assessed accordingly. Got my NOA and everything.
Before receiving my NOA I realized that I have filed a wrong return type, and that I should have filed as an immigrant (first time being a tax resident ) and also I claimed a return that wasn't supposed to be claimed ( the tax preparation was done by an accountant)
Anyways, I reached out to H and R block and they refined it non electronically for reassessment

Quick question based on all that, does filing a wrong tax return but proactively correcting it affect anything later on, like my status with the CRA whatsoever

H&R block employees are not usually accountants which is why they charge very little and do uncomplicated returns. Most can do their own taxes with the tax preparation software that now exists. If you have corrected and refiled it shouldn't be a problem as long as it is now correct..

Thank you, very much
On an unrelated matter, what's your insight on someone who claimed CRB (3 periods) and was found ineligible. However, the agent heard his situation and filed the first application for him.
Do you think the CRA will charge him with fraud or criminal charges? Or that is reserved for people using multiple SINs, fake names etc

An agent applying for multiple people they know didn't qualify could technically be charged. Anyone knowingly applying while they didn't qualify should be returning the money asap. If you return he money you are less likely to run into problems.

He isnt sure, it's a Grey area I'm his case and this is why he filed his first claim of crb over the phone 2 weeks ago to be able to ask the agent

Unfortunately the agents can't be trusted. What is the grey area? The rules are pretty clear.
His hours were cut in half and he has an email that says it's due to covid and his company losing a contract. However, he just started working in December 2020. When he does the calculation of dividing a months income over 52 weeks he will never qualify unless he's laid off but the cra agent told him that his case falls under the 50 percent

Do they have proof they were seeking other employment to make up for the reduced hours and did they make 5k last year? How long did they work full hours before being cut down to 50%? How many hours did they work per week before being reduced by 50%?

Yes, rejected from many jobs many as in he applies for 50 plus a day. He got 4 interviews and all of them didn't go through etc.
He made 6800K last year and he worked fill time from 5th of December 2020 to 21st of January 2021
Worked 32 hours a week and now since January 25th he's been working 16 a week

This isn’t meant for his very short term employment. He essentially only worked for 6 weeks with a holiday period on the middle. He can’t even calculate his average monthly income since he only worked just over 1 month. Personally don’t believe he qualifies for CRB although I am not a tax accountant.

Thank you for your reply
Actually he is fine with paying it back if found ineligible, The only fear is any other ramifications, specially the fraud charges or criminal records.

As long as he is proactive and makes arrangements to pay it back asap he should be fine.
