Hubby and I still need to file our taxes to CRA.
Last year we used H&R Block and throughout the year ran into issues all because they didn't do well filing it but it was our first time putting me on his return as well so we were afraid to do it alone thinking they would do better. Hubby still never got the GST that he was entitled to but at least this year we hope he will. We now know that could have been due to me not filing a tax return as well so now we will.

My question is: Have any of you used a tax preparing software to file taxes? Obviously we will be printing it out and mailing it because I am not eligible to efile and we would find it much more simpler to file jointly. I tried out the free TurboTax software but need to pay to print it off. I do not want to purchase it yet as I am afraid we will run into issues again. So have any of you used this and what do you think is the most reliant tax preparing software to use? Thank you for any help you can provide.

P.S. I know I should have posted this in the tax/finance section of these forums but it doesn't seem threads get as much attention there so I felt I would have better luck posting here. Hope you all don't mind. :)

Arrrghhh taxes. This year its going to be strange for us too. The last 2 years the bf has had a temp SIN now he'll have a perm. Do I list his old SIN or his new on my return LOL. I'll be calling the CRA in the next month with a ton of questions. Forgot to file common law last year so much fun!

Wish I could help LOve but I have no idea!

I really like TurboTax (or QuickTax as it used to be called).

I have used it for years, for $35, its better than an accountant. But the problem is what I call those gray areas...divorces, immigration, there you will need to contact and get opinions on what to actually do. You can always ask a question in the TurboTax community, sometimes it is worth it. You could always try calling support, I never tried, but could be worth a shot.

Have fun (right!)

My mom did ours ... lol She's still a sucker for me ... Put me down as married - his income as Zero (I'm supporting him while our application is in the process) Sent a letter with the docs regarding his 0$ income,, and our request a ways back for an ITN number which he'll replace when he gets a SIN NUMBER (Summer of 2012 if things go well!) that's how we did it.... I called CRA before filing to ask if I should put him as a dependant or a spouse with zero income, they said even if he has no SIN number I can put him as my spouse with 0$ income :) woop!

I just did mine with Turbo Tax, I left the SIN spot empty, and put his income in from his W2. after using the bank of Canada dollar converter. I e-filed it, and answered all the questions honestly, and said that he was a non resident for the tax year.

I was assessed with no problems!!!

Best of luck, I bought the software from walmart but you can also get it online!!!
