I'm in the same situation.

Even though I meet the residency requirement I don't think I can apply yet until I file my 2016 taxes.
I landed in December 2012 and I filed for 2013, 2014, 2015 and will file for 2016 in March.

any ideas?
If you have filed all your taxes since you arrived in 2012...you should be OK to apply now.

2012 taxes filed in 2013, 2013 taxes filed in 2014, 2014 taxes filed in 2015 and 2015 taxes filed in 2016: that is 4 years as needed.

Except u didn't file 2012 taxes that you were supposed to in 2013 OR 2015 taxes that you were supposed to in 2016.

I arrived in September 2012 and I will be sending my application this Friday.

actually this is not 100% accurate.

I did file my 2012 taxes in 2013, so I'm eligible to submit a citizenship application.
However as I was in Canada for only 2 months in 2012 and didn't work I was NOT required to file. That basically means that if I hadn't voluntarily filed my 2012 taxes (which was a big zero) now I wouldn't be able to apply for citizenship even if I met the time in canada requirement.

Good point but two comments here:
1. When they say that you must meet tax filing requirements, it does not mean that you have to file taxes. For 2012 you answer NO to whether you are required to file taxes, and NO to whether taxes were filed. This means that you fulfilled your requirement for tax filing.
2. If someone still feels concerned - like me who thought what if Citizenship officer mistreats this requirement - you can always file taxes for zero-income years even years later, e.g. I filed my 2012 taxes, which were zero, in 2014 or 2015.
