My test invitation came by snail mail and there was a photocopied sheet saying to bring all passports and travel docs (current and expired). However, throughout the process we have just been required to provide passports for the validity period (5) years.

I presume that I should go with the passports for the past 5 years rather than every single one I've ever had since I was a child?!

I took all my passports. I assumed they meant to ask only for the ones that cover the last 5 years, but felt safer to take them at their word.
The Citizenship Officer glanced at the biographical pages and handed me back the ones that did not fall within the eligibility period.

At this point, I'd take the lot (playing it safe, in case they meant what they wrote), but only hand over the ones that were valid within the last 5 years.

(Others on the forum are likely to recommend you only take the ones that were valid within the last 5 years. That's a valid choice -- I'm just a bit more cautious about these things.)

If in doubt, over-prepare.

If you have the old passports laying around, I would take them. Otherwise just take the one(s) that cover the eligibility period.
