If I am currently employed by a Canadian company full-time and working outside of Canada (remotely, optional - not assigned a role), and if I am in trouble meeting my PR RO, should I ask my employer to switch me to a contract-based role?

Can I legally remain a full-time employee (non-contract) for this company if my PR is in danger, or, if my PR has been revoked?

What are the pros and cons of switching to a contract-based role, with respect to my status in Canada, etc.?

FYI: These are just questions to aid my future plans. Thanks for the support.
 
I'm actually not even sure about how switching to contact work would even work, with respect to the law, taxes, etc.

If any of you can help me/point me in the right direction to find some info, that would be appreciated!
 
Switching to a contract based role won't necessarily change the fact that you are optionally out of the country, which is why you can't use the time to meet your RO.

As to the legality of remaining an employee, I haven't a clue. You'd have to ask your employer about that.

Switching to a contract based role won't help you. The time you are spending outside of Canada cannot be counted towards the residency obligation.

Yes, because your question doesn't quite make sense.

If your question is "Can my employer continue to employ me if I lose my PR," then that's something your company needs to sort out.

Ah - in that case Canada won't what you do. This is really a question for the country you are living and working in presently.
 
Hi guys.

It's not exactly a question of whether my company will still employ me or not. I am currently working in Canada and living in no country: I move all the time.

The question is more about the process of losing PR while working for a Canadian company. Can one work for a Canadian company as a non-PR from abroad, or must one change to contract-work to make this legal?

Apologies if the question was vague to start with.
 
This is a question that is better answered by your company as it's more complex than one that I can answer. It will depend on provincial and federal laws and your company's way of structuring its work with you.
