Hi,

Right now my boyfriend is illegal and we are planning to apply soon as a common-law relationship. In the meantime, my boyfriend is hearing all kinds of crazy rumours about immigration going to people houses to kick them out of the country and we're a litle worried. He has the idea that if he is caught he will say that he want to apply for refugee status. Then when we are eligible to apply under common-law (in a couple months) he will withdraw that application while simultaneously submitting our common- law application. Any thoughts on how that might work?

thanks for your help. this forum is a god send for us, there's so much information here!

1. Yes CBSA does look for and arrest illegals in Canada.
2. If he was reported for whatever, then claimed refugee status, an order is issued. If he withdraws the refugee claim, then the order becomes effective and he would be removal ready most likely.
