Are you applying for a visa too? How long is her visit? If not, you can provide but it will weaken her profile. She needs to show strong ties to home country, travel history, funds, vaccinations etc. So funds are your bank accounts (liquid) to support a visit to Canada. If there are more than you and your spouse that you are supporting that will be considered to. Eg using all liquid funds for her to visit Canada.

Thank you for your reply.I do not apply,I need to continue working in my current country. The specific situation is that my son(12 years old) intentd to study in Canada as an international student for 2 years(8th and 9th grade),and my wife intends to accompany and take care of him,so she will stay for 2 years too.

She can’t stay for 2 years as a visitor. She can try to get a visitor visa to get him settled with his Canadian guardian but can only stay up to 6 months or less. It is at the discretion of the officer how long (up to 6 months) she can stay.

If your son is studying in Canada, you need a Canadian guardian so assume you have one. So with a son studying for 2 years estimated $15-20k in tuition per year plus living expenses so about $50-60k in your bank account. Then she needs her own funds to visit and get him settled.

Chances of refusal are higher for her because your son will be studying in Canada. She needs to show strong ties to country and that she isn’t coming to stay for two years.

Is a Canadian guardian essential?I always thought that if my wife accompanying my son, then no other guardian is necessary.Because we have no relatives and friends in Canada.

A Canadian guardian or custodian is required because your wife can't live with your son in Canada. If a visitor, she is accompanying him to get him settled; not living in Canada for the years he studies. She can only stay up to 6 months and maybe even less. CBSA determines how long she can stay upon entry. If they think she is going to live in Canada while your son studies, they can give her a two-week stay. Most private schools will undertake guardianship so talk with the school he will be attending about guardianship. There are some companies that do this too for a fee. The guardianship declaration forms are on the study permit website.

In general, international students in high school are expected to come to Canada without their parents. In some rare cases a parent is able to keep extending their visitor status but you still need a Canadian guardian and custodian. You can’t count on a parent retaining status. You will need to show significantly more funds if your child has a study permit and your wife wants to get a TRV.
