Super Visa -border officer stamped 10 months

Hello All, I need some clarification please. My parents have super Visa (pg-1) up to the validity of their passport - 4 years and 9 years. They came into Canada last week (initial entry) and the border officer stamped that they will leave in 10 months. I thought they are eligible to stay for 5 years, why where they stamped for 10 months and what can I do please. Any explanation/suggestion will be appreciated. TIA.

Did they in anyway indicate they were moving to Canada and not just visiting? Were they asked about their ties to their home country? Does the 10 month coincide with a major event since 20 months is a bit of a usual length of time.
