if your income is legitimate, then you should have filed taxes in the country of the company that you are earning your income from (as you should)... show them the tax assessment from that country that you should have filed.... also, you can't really appeal this stuff... best option is to simply re-apply, but do that when you have some done your taxes for year of 2013, that would be a safer bet.... best of luck...

Thanks. Yes I'm gonna wait until I find work with a Canadian employer and/or file taxes.

So let's suppose you apply for a supervisa in october 2013, the only notice of assesment you would have is for 2012. Will the embassies accept that as proof of canadian income instead of a job letter/pay stubs?

I would provide the NOA from 2012 and also a recent job letter / pay stub. This will prove you meet the Canadian sources requirement and also demonstrate that you still meet the income requirement now.

What they prefer is a notice of assessment a letter from an employer helps but I would think it depends who the employer is. If it is Bell Canada or a large corporation that is one thing but if it is from a small company like Bobs plumbing I don't think it will go very far. Pay stubs do help but they have to be legitimate with payroll deductions filled by the company and taxes paid.

Hey guys, I just found out that I'm totally ignorant with tax system of Canada.
Say that I submit my tax return on April 2014, when would I expect the arrival of Notice of assessment?
How much does it take Revenue Canada to assess my tax return and eventually reply.
Thanks a lot!

It really depends on how complicated your case is, whether its your first tax filing, whether you use e-file or paper file, etc. This past year, I filed in April and didn't get my assessment and refund until October. That was apparently because my file was sent for further review as a returning resident. However, in previous years, I have received it in as little as 6 weeks.

CRA is very efficient usually you will get something back in 4 to 6 weeks, including your notice of assessment. You can also contact them directly they are usually pretty good is answering questions and guiding people.
