Hi All,

I'm in Canada from last 1.5 yrs on WP. Have to travel to my home country - India for urgent reasons for 5-6 months (min). My question was if I can apply under CEC category while in India?
If I can send me application directly to Canada Immi office in CA or I've to apply from India-Canada Consulate? If that's from India office, please advise on challenges, things need to take care of and timelines?

Advises?

Yes - http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?q=389&t=6

This is covered in the application guide - http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5609ETOC.asp

Everyone sends the application to the same place - the Central Intake Office in Canada. Addresses are in the instruction guide.

This is not the same thing as the visa office requested for processing your application. (Generic Application form IMM 0008, Question 4 : Immigration Office requested for the processing of your application). For most of us in the CEC class, it is CPP-Ottawa. But if you apply from India and expect to remain there, New Delhi (it will still be processed in Ottawa, but passport can be stamped in New Delhi). Or, you can still request Ottawa, but if/when it comes time to get your passport stamped and you're in India, you can request a change to New Delhi then...

Thanks jes_ON...
I may sound little off, but since may not have complete knowledge of the overall process, looking for advise?

My question:
- So my understand is that I can send my forms directly to CPP-Ottawa from India? Correct?
- Once everything goes fine in terms medical, final stamping for PR on passport should be done from New Delhi? Correct?
- So till its in process, I can give Canadian address and when it get completed, for PR stamping I can get it changes to New Delhi??

Is it fair understanding?

1. You sent forms directly to CPP-Ottawa from India
2 You can do medicals , PR stamping from your country of current residence ( if u r india at the time the request comes in , you do it from there or else whereever u r)
3. you give ur current address all the time, and make sure u update cic when u change ur address

- NO, please read carefully the guide: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5609ETOC.asp
Everything in the guide is pretty straightforward. It says: "All new Economic Class applications must first be mailed to the Centralized Intake Office in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada".

- Select the Visa Office as New Delhi assuming you are currently in India.

- You do not have to give a Canadian address if your Current Residence is India.

I hope that helps and please please read the guide.. All your questions are answered there.

SIGH. No, absolutely not. NO ONE sends their application package directly to a visa office. Everyone, regardless of where they are or what visa office they have selected, MUST send their application to the Central Intake Office (CIO) in Sydney, Nova Scotia. [color]

That is your choice. If CIC asks you to send your passport to Ottawa and you're in India, it's a headache since by law, Indian passports cannot be mailed (internationally?). So it all depends on where you think you'll be about a year after you apply...

- So till its in process, I can give Canadian address and when it get completed, for PR stamping I can get it changes to New Delhi??

You are allowed to have different mailing and residential addresses, and some choose to do as you describe above. But you must always inform CIC of your actual residence. So if you return to India, you must give them your residential address in India, but if you still prefer to use a mailing address in Cananda, you can do that to.

As far as initially selecting Ottawa and later asking to change to New Delhi (to get your passport stamped) - it's possible, but you have to understand that CIC doesn't have to agree to change visa offices. Recent posts seem to suggest that they are accommodating these requests, but there are no guarantees...

If you apply before you leave Canada, you can select Ottawa or New Delhi. If you leave Canada and apply from India, and have no immediate plans to return, you should select New Delhi...
