Submit Application - First Landing (Time frames)

I have a general question regarding time frames of the process.

1. I've heard that it takes roughly 6 months from the date you submit your application to when you get a decision from CIC. Is this true?
2. If the decision is positive (ie the person gets permanent residency in Canada), within how much time does the person have to move to Canada (make the first landing), before they loose PR?

1) Yes true.

2) The expiry date of your visa is either one year of medicals or expiry date of your passport, whichever comes earlier.

You MUST land in Canada before your visa expires.
