I realise this is a stupid question, but what is the difference between a visitors visa and a temporary residence permit?

Sorry I take it back. Apparently TRV and TRP are different. I wonder why they would make such terminologies to mean completely different things. To create confusion? The poster below has a good response.

TRV (Temporary Resident Visa) is a term that covers such tourist visa too. So there is no difference.

A TRP is for people that are normally inadmissible to Canada. It's rarely used and only for special cases.

TRP = Temporary Resident Permit.
