First off Sorry for all my questions!! This forum has been the best source of information though. I am a November app with AOR but not SA yet. We are in Calgary on visitor status which expires in February. I spoke with the Calgary school district today about enrolling my children and the lady was very helpful. She set up an appt and explained that they will enroll my children since we have applied for PR. She said they will give me acceptance letters and that I will need to apply for study permits for them with the letters. This has led me to an uncharted territory. I don't know anything about this process so after looking further into this on CIC website I found I have several questions.

1. Can I apply for a visitor extension for myself at the same time as their study permits? I am hoping this could improve my chance of approval.

2. My oldest son is 18 and I was planning on applying for an extension of his visitor permit but I am wondering if applying for a work permit for him under his siblings study permits might be granted? When I was answering the eligibility questions on CIC it asked about work so I am wondering if that is an actual possibility.

3. One of the questions asks if "Applied for Permanent Residence to an office in Canada and was determined to be eligible for Permanent Resident status (first stage approval)" Would I answer yes or no ? does the 'in Canada" mean in-land applicants with SA?

Last question will we need to leave Canada and reenter if they receive study permits? "land" ?

thank you so much for any advice or info :D

It sucks that the school district have told you to apply for study permits for the kids. Most schools/school boards will allow the stepchildren of a Canadian with PR apps in process to enroll without a study permit.

1. It doesn't matter if you apply separately or at the same time. With a PR app in process, provided you have sufficient proof of finances, there is pretty much no chance of refusal for you.

2. No, your son does not qualify for a work permit.

3. This refers only to inland apps.

4. Yes, they would need to flagpole to activate their study permits.

Thank you so much Canuck :) I was surprised they wanted study permits also but I was just happy they would enroll them because they are currently in an online California school and are not meeting any new friends.

We got the letters of acceptance today from the school district and now can apply for study permits. :) The lady at the district who helped us said we could go to a border crossing to get study permits. Is this true? Should we go to a border crossing without applying beforehand?

Provided you guys are visa-exempt, yes, you can flagpole at the Canada-US border to get study permits for the kids.

Thank you!! Makes me nervous since my 6 month visitor status is almost up. Don't want any issues at the border but would be faster than applying online.

With the kids applying for study permits and a PR app in process, you should have no issues.

Thank you so much for all your advice!! Can I also apply for a visitor extension by flagpolling ?
