Hi everyone. I need advice from the house. I am applying for my study permit and would like to apply for my husband and children alongside as dependents. Would this impact negatively on my chances of getting the permit? Is it better to apply alone to increase my chances?

As long as you provide enough proof of funds to support your husband and children, applying with or without dependents is not a factor for approval or refusal - Make sure you provide all the documents requested when applying to make your application as strong as possible. Good luck!

Thanks @nickgrizzly. Another concern I have is this; my husband is my sponsor. A friend said he can't apply as a dependent to come over to Canada with me since he is my sponsor. He can only come for a visit until I finish schooling. Can this be true?

It makes sense, if he's your sponsor, it doesn't really make sense for him to come to Canada because how is he going to pay for your studies and support you while moving here. It might make more sense if you come first, he can apply for a visitor visa and then apply for an SOWP when he gets here. :)

Your husband can do both provided there is required proof of funds combined as a family during period of yoour studies...

Provided they meet POF and other entry requirement, he can apply now or anytime. It doesnt make any difference apply now or later even-if he is a sponsor
