Study permit extension

Hello,

I just graduated from a high school in Canada, going to the university in Sept. My study permit will expire on the 30th Sept, 2010, I am now back in Hong Kong, should I apply an extension for my study permit in Hong Kong now, or would I have enough time to do so when i return to Canada in early September? I have read that I can apply the extension on line, would 20 days before the expiration date be enough for the application process?
