Study permit but want to take semester off to work, already hired

Hello,

I am from the US studying at a university in B.C on a study permit valid until 2020. Currently I am taking the summer semester off to work full time in Canada but was wondering if I’d be able to work full time in Canada for another semester through a work permit and then go back to school Full time in the beginning of 2019.

Only if your employer is able to obtain an approved LMIA and you are able to convert your study permit to a closed work permit. Otherwise you have to return to class in September.

If you get a closed work permit your study permit will be closed and you would have to apply for a new one.
