Hi guys, I guess may be this is too early to ask since we just sent our Inland spousal application last week..
I read some threads and replies, and now i know that i can get owp status or student status after i get AIP ..

Since i am planning to go back to university as soon as possible, I'm wondering if i can get a study permit, instead of owp.

I already have a PGWP, and do not need another owp until february next year.(and we didn't include owp application in my pr app.). As far as i know I am not allowed to go to school with my PGWP..

Q1. Can i apply for a study permit after AIP?
Q2. Will they approve my study permit? (even though i have a PGWP)

Any advice will be appreciated!

Hi

You cannot get a study permit instead of the OWP. An inland PR app only qualifies an applicant to an OWP after AIP.

1. You can apply for a study permit whenever you want; having an inland PR app will not affect the process. You will still need a university acceptance letter, proof of funds etc., same as anyone else applying for a study permit.

2. I believe standard practice for CIC is to cancel the first permit when they issue a new one. So in your case, the PGWP would be cancelled when the study permit was issued. Some people have said on here that they were able to keep both permits but as far as I know, that was either an error on their part or an error by CIC.
