Hello all , just wanted some advice . We are interested in immigrating to canada . My husband (43 years ) has a certificate in aircraft maintenance engineering and has 22years of experience in his field. Since age is our biggest drawback in the process , what other options are available ? We have kids aged 7 and 9. We were debating with the option of studying that will get us in the country. Do universities in canada accept persons of his age . Also what are the chances of obtaining a PR after doing a course for 1 year min ? Also can he sponsor us while he is studying. Can he apply for a PR while doing the course ?Pls help . Your advice will be really appreciated. Thanking you in advance.

You cannot get PR from studying in a course. A study permit is not a pathway to PR.

He would need to qualify under other categories to apply for PR while studying, such as express entry - but that's where age becomes a problem.

Start by calculating how many points you have under Express Entry now (see the link below with program details). This will give you a general idea of how much of a gap you have to be selected (you're aiming to have 470+ points to be selected). As said above, your age is unfortunately going to work against you. I expect that simply taking a 1 year course in Canada will not give your husband the points he needs to be selected for PR. Most likely he would need to take a multi-year course (at least two years) so that he qualifies for a 3 year post graduate work permit and can work a few years in Canada to get additional points. It's possible that he may have enough points after studying and working in Canada a few years (but of course not at all guaranteed).

For the study permit to be approved, he will need to make sure his planned studies in Canada make sense in light of his previous education and work experience. He will also need to show he has enough savings to pay for the program and his living expenses.

You can apply to come with him to Canada while he studies but approval is not guaranteed and it's possible he may have to come on his own.
