I hope someone can help me with a question regarding studying and doing an internship in Canada.
I'm currently enrolled in a degree program at a university in the Netherlands, during our 3rd year we're able to partcipate in an exchange program at a foreign university (4 months) and to do an internship abroad (5/6 months).
I'm one of the lucky students that has been selected to do this exchange at Ryerson University in Toronto, I will be attending from September until December 2015. I would also like to do my internship in Toronto, starting mid-January/beginning of February. However, some things regarding Visa's are quite unclear to me.
For doing an internship in Toronto, I've applied for the WHP Visa, however, since I'm not allowed to do my exchange program under this Visa (I've contacted IEC about this), I need to activate my WHP at a later time.
Does anyone know if I can activate my work permit after attending Ryerson (so end of December) while being in Canada? If so, how?
If the above is not possible, can I leave the country (I want to go to New York for about a week in December or January) and when re-entering Canada, active my work permit?
