Students permit extension

Hello, I am having a problem extending my passport due to covid 19, and my study permit and passport will expire in September, can I apply with my current passport now?

They won't issue a permit valid for longer than your passport.

Maybe wait a bit and try to get passport extended first, if you are still unable to, apply for extension and include an explanation, then send in new passport copy when you get it. Extensions can take many months and there is a general policy of not rejecting things based on missing docs due to covid so they might just hang onto your application until you get a new passport in which case you will be under implied status.
