student visa and marriage - HELP!!!

Hi I am an American and am engaged to a Canadian citizen. My Canadian fiance is working in Canada and I am going to start graduate school in Canada in September. Should I apply for status under a study permit or under our family relationship as we will ultimately be applying for me to stay in Canada after school is over in a year.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!!!
